We are used to following Apple’s events such as the one planned for today via Live blogs from people inside the event, twitter feeds, and sometime live streams from people inside.

This time marks a new beginning for Apple events. Apple will be live streaming this September Media event in full glory and we don’t need to be there to watch it live.
There is a catch.
You can only watch the Apple live stream today only if you have an Apple product like a Mac, iPhone, Apple iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 3.0 or higher.
ReadWriteWeb explains why that is so
Apple will broadcast the event using its internally-developed HTTP Live Streaming Protocol, which requires either a Mac running Safari on Mac OS X version 10.6, an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or higher or an iPad.[...] The HTTP live streaming protocol is a feature of the latest version of Apple’s multimedia player and framework, QuickTime X. The new protocol lets users stream audio and video over HTTP. This makes things easier for broadcasters, who can use a standard Web server instead of a special media server to stream in almost-real time.
You can test if you can watch the live stream by opening this sample live stream link.
But, if you are not on an supported device to watch the stream and still want to, MacRumors has a nice tip on how you can watch it with the VLC media player.
Of course, you can still come back here and read our roundup from the September Media Event. We will make sure you get all the juicy bits from this event. Or follow us on twitter @TopiPhone for news as it happens.
Here are a few rumors going around – a new Apple iPod Touch with retina, Facetime, etc & an iPod Nano, possible Apple TV announcements, iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iOS 4 for iPad.
What are you hoping to see today?
