We are doing a little TLC at our house with some painting projects. Naturally, I started to look for an app that made it easy to choose the colors.
Behr has an iPhone app called ColorSmart – same as the virtual color tool they have online. Only nicer and very intuitive to use.
On launching the ColorSmart app, you are greeted with a color palette. You can start with a color family you want like brown, green, blue, red, orange or whites. If you already know of a color name or number you can search for it too.
Since we already had a few colors picked out from the Behr.com website, we used this option quite a bit. Once you find a color you like, you can apply this on a room and preview. They have quite a few styles of rooms and types of rooms. Changing color in a room is as simple as tapping the wall.
If you like a color, just tap the right top button to add it to your favorites.
Even though the app has 5 tabs at the bottom, the preview screen is tied into pretty much every other tab making it really seamless to preview colors no matter where you started.
When you are looking at a color, you can also get designer-coordinated color combinations.
Another cool feature is you can take a picture of any room and get a color match from Behr’s collection. This is very useful if you want to capture colors as you are going about with your life.
Once you are close to making your choices, you can use the paint calculator to find out how much paint you will need for the project. You can also find a nearby store to buy paint right from the app.
The favorites tab I mentioned is not just for saving colors, you can save room images with the colors you applied, palettes, calculations, store locations, etc.
The app also tries to be a bit social so you can share your room or color ideas in Facebook.
The one feature I’d really love to see in this app is the ability to upload my own picture and apply paint colors. Also, an iPad app would be terrific for this as the extra screen real estate would make looking at rooms so much better.
