Google recognizes this and the searches for their own mobile apps in the Android marketplace.

So, now when you search for a mobile app from your iPhone or Android device, Google shows direct links for app downloads. You can also get a quick look at the app’s basic details such as price, rating and the publisher.

At this point though the search may be limited to ‘well-rated’ apps. For eg. a well known SoundHound iPhone app came up in the search but I tried to find the AT&T app with no luck.

Also, the word ‘download’ and then the app name seems to be the key. I use Google iPhone app for everything and now I might skip going to the App Store for search for an app if Google can do that too.

I am officially an Instagram addict like so many others in the fast growing community. I think I am about to post my 250th picture there (you can find me a topiphone).

For such a popular service, Instagram is just available on the iPhone and the founders haven’t decided on their web presence. But, the cool part is that they have opened up their APIs to other developers and we are seeing some cool services springing out of it.

Recently, we wrote about a service called Printsgram that lets you print Instagram photos. Another service is webstagram that lets you view Instagram online!

Now, I just came across another cool service called Copygram.

If you can’t guess from the name, Copygram lets you download your Instagram photos to your hard drive.

At Copygr.am, you just provide your Instagram id and email address to download your ‘archive’. You will  receive an email with a link to download your own ‘archive’.

As long as the photos are public, you can pretty much download anyone’s photos from Instagram profile.

Copygram has also teamed with Snapfish and lets you order analog 4×4” prints.

Another similar service that let’s you download Instagram photos is Instaport. If you are wondering how to post your Instagram photos to Facebook, wonder no more.

The popularity of this app is just mindblowing considering there is no android Instagram yet!

Now, with a free service called Printsgram, you can print your Instagram masterpieces in a gallery in different sizes.

Here’s how you create your print.

1. Sign in with your Instagram login into printsgram.com
2. Choose from various sizes – A4 Poster (free), A3 Poster (free), Big Poster (free), Photo Cubes (free), Stickers (free). A3Poster and Big Poster could jump to $1.99 each.
3. Select pictures for your layout by dragging and dropping from a film strip of your Instagram pictures on the bottom
4. Set a title and Create
5. Save your output as a PDF. You can print it with your own printer or take it to a printer so you can frame it.

I just created this A4 poster with my own favorites and will be hanging it in my office wall.The bigger sized A3Poster and Big Poster are free right now. I am not sure when it could go up to $1.99 each. So, I just created 2 more in those sizes as well.

Readability is a service that makes reading web pages uncluttered by removing images and ads. They recently revamped their entire service by offering a revenue sharing system with publishers for content read through Readability.

Since Readability was not a publisher themselves they did not use Apple’s subscription service. This did not sit well with Apple and they rejected their app.

Instead of brooding over it, the Readability team went back to the drawing board and created an awesome iOS compatible HTML5 web app with offline reading capability.

Readability has submitted their app again and awaiting a decision from Apple. With Stave Jobs saying SaaS model apps aren’t submitted to the subscription model, it is possible the Readability app will be approved.

We will wait and see what happens there. Until then, you can enjoy Readability.com on your mobile browser. The fallout of this is that Android users can also enjoy this thanks to the HTML5 webapp.

They work this out in the background by looking at trends of email contacts you regularly open and reply, your own signals marking certain mails important or unimportant.

Thanks to this feature, I am always looking at just the emails that matter and just clear out the rest at the end of the day.’

This feature however was only available on the web and Gmail’s mobile interface did not support it. Until now.

The Gmail web app now has support for Priority Inbox for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

You can now see important mail markers in the web interface with the distinct yellow icons. I am so addicted to this feature that I might have to abandon the native Mail.app in iPhone for a while.

If you want to print from Gmail in your iPhone, you just need to pull down your menu icon and hit print.

Of course, you need to share your printers with Google Cloud Print for this to work.

You can print not only emails but also certain attachments in an email like PDF, doc, etc.

At present, this requires a Windows PC but Mac and Linux support are supposedly coming soon. Google is still rolling this out to US Gmail users. I don’t see it on mine yet.

Google Cloud Print vs iOS Air Print

With the recent iOS updates, Apple announced a feature called Air Print. This lets you print from your iOS devices to certain printers in your local network.

Google Cloud Print is superior as it works with most existing printers as opposed to select printers that support AirPrint. Also, Google’s solution lets you print from anywhere over the Internet and you don’t have to be in the same network as the printer.

Swearch is an excellent example for useful web apps for iOS devices. I have made it my home page with the jailbreak tweak I mentioned above.

You can add some cool symbols with Glyphboard. Now, don’t go searching for it in the App Store. Glyphboard is not an iPhone app but this is how you can add it to your iPhone, Apple iPad  or iPod Touch.

Glyphboard web app is an iOS optimized webpage that you can add it to your home screen.

1. Go to http://mrgan.com/gb/ on your iDevice Mobile Safari
2. Tap the + button and select Add to Home Screen
3. Launch Glyphboard from Home Screen
4. Tap and hold the symbol you like and copy it to clipboard
5. Then paste it anywhere you can use your iPhone keyboard.

Apple rejected Google Voice iPhone app last summer. AT&T and Apple shifted blame on each other with even the FCC getting involved. But, as of today neither Apple or AT&T have budged to approve the Google Voice iPhone app in the App Store even though they announced that VOIP iPhone apps can use 3G.

Google has just announced that Google Voice is now available to both iPhone and Palm Pre/Pixi as a web app. The new Google Voice interface is built on HTML5 with most of the functionality in the original iPhone app that was rejected by Apple.

One major difference between the original iPhone app and the current browser based Google voice is that the iPhone contact list cannot be accessed by the web app. However, it manages a separate contact list that is stored in the cloud just like Google Contacts.

The new Google Voice interface is very slick indeed with a iPhone keypad like interface – Dialer – for dialing phone numbers.

Also with the nav bar, you can switch to ‘Dialer’ ‘Compose SMS’, ‘Inbox’, or ‘Contacts’. You can use the Google Voice interface to send free interface and make cheap international calls using data connection.

With the HTML5 technology providing the functionality and the speed only a native application can provide, Google Voice web app goes to prove how sophisticated the next generation web applications are going to be in the future.

If you have a jailbroken iPhone, you could consider using GV Mobile iPhone app for Google Voice.

Google has now turned on the ability to use your location as the search query.

When you visit Google.com in iPhone Safari browser, you will see a ‘Turn on location’ button. Once you click that you will see a Near Me Now tab with frequently searched categories.

With this, Google is looking to give you results that are right in you vicinity. This makes complete sense as if you were searching for Starbucks it is more likely that you are looking to buy a caramel latte from a nearby Starbucks than lookup the company information. Especially from your iPhone.

By using the ‘Explore right here’ option, you can do just that with fewer clicks while searching.

‘Near me now’ feature is currently available in the US for iPhone (OS 3.x) or Android powered devices. Just make sure you have Location enabled in your iPhone for it to work.
