Epic Games Releases Infinity Blade Universal App

You may remember Epic Games as the game engine that Steve Jobs espoused during the unveiling of iPhone 4. Since then Epic Games had released their Unreal development kit for iOS developers.

Also, we were privy to the Infinity Blade game trailer.

Finally, Epic Games has released the much awaited game – Infinity Blade as a universal app for $5.99. The game will play on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch and Apple iPad. (no love for iPhone 3G)

The game is optimized for iPhone 4.

The game play goes like this. You fight the God King by travelling through the Dark Citadel fighting his titans until face the tyrant.

As you might have noticed in the Epic Citadel trailer, the 3D environment is mind blowing. Once you get to fight the God King, you might fail the first time.

Here is the twist. Once you fail, the gameplay forwards to the future where your son returns to the citadel to fight the tyrant again. And it could even span generations even though you get to accumulate stats from the previous generation.

Infinity Blade looks plain stunning on an iPhone 4 and I can’t wait to try it on the iPad as well. The game comes with Game Center support and could add multiplayer mode in a future update.

Metal Gear Solid Touch on Sale for $0.99. Was $7.99

Metal Gear Solid fans should be jumping up and down with this news.

Metal Gear Solid Touch (iTunes) for iPhone and iPad was priced at $7.99 in the App Store. Just for today, they have dropped the price to a freaking awesome $0.99.

Even if this is not a full blown Metal Gear Solid game on the iOS device, you still can enjoy most of the elements of this game on your handheld console.

This game is based on the Metal Gear Solid 4 – The Patriots.

Inotia: A Wanderer of Luone Released

Com2us has to be one of my favorite iPhone game studios.

They have been releasing hit games right and left in an App Store flooded with so many quality games.

A few favorites of mine from Com2us are HomeRun Battle (Baseball slugger) and the new Sniper vs Sniper (review coming soon).

The common thread that has me hooked with all Com2us games is their online gaming aspect. After I am finished with the regular game play, I still get hours and hours of fun by playing online with other players. It never gets old plus updates with new features also makes it nicer.

Com2Us has released an excellent followup to their RPG game Chronicles of Inotia: Legend of Feanor called Inotia: A Wanderer of Luone.

Inotia: A Wanderer of Luone begins another epic adventure through the vast and of Inotia. The nice video intro reminded me of Lord of the Rings and likewise you are saving the land of Inotia from the Evil Lord Gorgon.

In a classic RPG style, you choose to play from 5 different roles or classes – Knight, Magician, Priest, Thief or Templar. Each class comes with different powers, experience, strategy and actions. And each class has 12 skills that can be upgraded.

It has over 200 single player quests and offers countless more playing hours through the online matchup mode.

You can hire mercenaries and even change the appearance of the character you are playing. You also get choose between the touch screen controls or the V-pad.

You could also upgrade your armory by purchasing equipment and weapons.

This game offers so much gameplay and spectacular graphics for each skill and with so many skill levels and characters you can be assured to get your money’s worth.

Honestly, I am not a RPG gamer but I was still hooked on this for a couple of hours when I tried the review copy.

Verdict: A must buy for a RPG game fan.

Also, the game is on sale with an introductory price of $7.99 for a short time.

iPhone App Review: Blowing

LNA Studio’s new iOS game, Blowing, is one of the few recent games to really try something original. It’s a cute, casual little game application and the unique twist it offers on the usual control options is a great hook.

Like most casual games, Blowing is based on a simple concept. It’s time to nosh, but you’ve got some extremely unappetizing guests trying to score a free meal. Well, they’re unappetizing in theory, but these creepy crawlies (ants, ladybugs, and snails) are pretty darn cute. To protect your snacks, you blow the bugs away—literally.

The game’s controls are very simple and very unique. Blowing uses an innovative control system which utilizes your iPhone’s microphone. Blow into the microphone, and see the baddies get virtually blown away.

Aside from the novelty, the game offers the sort of casual playability that makes simple mobile games so addictive. The animation is great, and there’s enough variety in scenes to keep players coming back for more.

The graphics are very cute, and their simplicity doesn’t outweigh the good game design. When bugs get blown away, they don’t just fly indiscriminately off screen. They also bump into and otherwise interact with other virtual objects. It’s a nice touch that gives this game polish.

Plenty of content, great design, and innovative controls make Blowing well worth its $.99 price. It’s compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, for iOS 4.1 or later. It’s a perfect little summertime game!

I found 2 awesome iPhone apps that normally sell for $2.99 on sale for just a dollar today. If you have been eying these apps for a while, you should grab them now.

Photogene iPhone App

Photogene is an excellent photo editing iPhone app that has tons of features and a very intuitive UI that lays over the image you are editing and gives you live preview.

Also, check out the excellent Iris Photo Suite we just reviewed which also sells for just $0.99.

Scrabble iPhone App

What self-respecting word-game fan can go without having Scrabble on their iPhone. I am guilty of that myself. I was hooked on to Words with Friends but now I have Scrabble too.

EA Sports’ most popular games FIFA 10 is now available in the iPhone gaming platform.

EA Sports is known for its realistic game play and FIFA 10 is no exception. It features 30 Leagues, 570 Teams and 12,620 Players!

You can choose your country or club and lead them to victory. I will post a detailed review when I have had a chance to play this game for a while. In fact, I am so close to pulling the trigger to buy this game at $9.99.

This is another example where iPhone excles not just as a mobile platform but also as a gaming platform.

iPhone Game Review: Last Stand Stan

Last Stand Stan was developed by Christopher Turner and is an exciting yet incredibly simple space action shooter. You are a robot named Stan and you must defend a planet from utter distraction.

Last Stand Stan has two different modes of game play: Campaign and Survival. Game play is pretty basic as you are fixed in one location (the center of the screen) and must blow away anything that moves. In the Campaign mode you will battle your way through 20 levels and four different bosses (happening at every 5th level). Along the way the game will become progressively more difficult but you will also pick up weapons such as a laser or an EMP Blast to help you survive. You should be careful however, as ammo is severely limited so make sure you use it sparingly! Secondly, the survival mode is basically a regurgitation of the campaign mode except that you play until you die. For you high-score junkies it might be better to finish the campaign mode because all the weapons you receive will be carried onto the survival mode.

Last Stand Stan features simple one-touch game play. Enemies will be attacking you from 360 so all you need to do is simply tap where you want him to shoot and he does so accordingly. In addition, you can drag your finger on the screen and he continuously shoot until you either ran out of ammo or remove your finger. I do wish this game allowed my hero to move around the screen instead of being stuck in one location.

The graphics and sound are well designed. The ships are detained and the animated effects from the explosions and gun fire are top notch. Everything flowed quite freely and I didn’t experience any hiccups along the way. Also the sound effects are similar to any type of space shooter you can find on the market.

Overall Last Stand Stan is not bad. The enemies are varied (9 different types) with different bosses should keep you occupied for a while. The game does get repetitive (as does any shooter) but if you’re a fan with the genre you might not mind. This game is rated very highly in the appstore with 199 reviews with an average of 4.5 stars so I wouldn’t hurt to try as it’s only $.99 in the Appstore today.
