For whatever reason, Cydia started crashing when it was loading the repositories this morning. And subsequent tries to start Cydia even after a couple of iPhone reboots didn’t fix this issue.
I knew the last 2 things that happened that might be causing this.
- I installed a new app Cylay
- Right before Cydia crashed for the first time this morning, it flashed that it couldn’t update a certain repo – it happened too quick to notice which repo it was though.
I started snooping around using a SSH connection to my iPhone. I had earlier come across a post by a fellow iPhoner (see link below) that rang a bell. That a corrupt repository could crash Cydia like this.
Here’s the easy fix:
- Use a graphical tool like i-Funbox to browse your iPhone file system
- Choose the raw file system option in i-Funbox and browse to /var/lib/apt/lists
- Backup/Delete the contents of this folder except partial folder
- Disconnect your iPhone and open Cydia

- If that didn’t fix it, backup/delete the contents of the folder /var/lib/dpkg/updates/
- Disconnect your iPhone and open Cydia
The first part helped me just fine and I went on load Cydia and grabbed the new revolutionary iPhone interface to post Pogoplank Review just as I wanted.
Hope it helps you too. Check out more iPhone tips and tricks.
