How to Disable iOS 4 Multitasking in iPhone 4 & 3GS? [jailbreak]

One of the most attractive features of iOS 4 was multitasking. But, it wasn’t so for some people. Some found their battery life was terrible. Some found their iPhone won’t turn on due to memory leak. Some didn’t like the way Apple implemented it.

If for some reason you want to disable multitasking on your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS/3G, you can do so now.

Only catch is your iPhone has to be jailbroken to be able to do this.

If you are jailbroken it is easy as pie to do it. I am sure there are many ways to do it and I will update this post as I come across new ways.

zToggle

zToggle is a free jailbreak app available in Cydia that gives easy access to disable multitasking and/or background wallpaper in iOS 4 in iPhone 3G, 3GS or iPhone 4.

Just install the app and respring your iPhone to disable multitasking in iOS 4.

It worked as advertised in my iPhone 4.

I also found another tweak (no app icon) in Cydia names Disable Multitasking.

But, I didn’t have luck with this tweak and figured I’d mention it here in case someone figures it out.

There may be ways to turn this off by messing with some files through SSH. I will update this post if there are any other ways to do it.

But, at the moment zToggle seems to be the best option and I am definitely adding it to the must-have free jailbreak apps as an option.
