This is one of the much awaited iPhone app for me. And probably for a lot of Firefox fans.
I use Firefox as my primary browser on my desktop becuase it can be such a powerful tool with some of the best firefox extensions making it an amazing tool for blogging, web development, productivity and just surfing for fun.
Firefox Home iPhone app is designed to be used as a get up and go app with everything waiting for you on your iPhone.
You can be working on your desktop Firefox at work and when you are ready to go home, just pick up your iPhone and your Firefox Home will have all your bookmarks, history and even open tabs just as you had left them on your desktop computer.
If you are worried about all this info going over the air, Firefox Home traffic is secure from end to end.
To get started you need to have Firefox Sync add-on installed on your desktop Firefox. You need to create an account with password and a passphrase. Once you have that sync setup in your browser, your data will exist in the cloud.
Now, install your Firefox Home free iPhone app and enter your login credentials. Now, sit back and enjoy the instantaneous sync between your desktop and your iPhone browser!
What Firefox Home is not!
Firefox Home is not an alternative to Safari mobile browser. It is not a full fledged browser like Opera Mini. You can however use it as an extension of your Firefox desktop. You can search and browse through your history and bookmarks and tabs. But, you can’t use it as a traditional browser app. I am a little curious as to why Firefox chose to do this instead of doing a Firefox Fennec (mobile browser) for iPhone.
But, I am happy with Firefox Home iPhone app as is.
