So it looks like there is a glaring design flaw in iPhone 4. If you hold the iPhone with the antenna bands in the lower part covered with your hands, you can see the reception lose a couple of bars or even drop calls. I can visually confirm that the bars drop when I cover the antenna but I haven’t had any dropped calls yet.
To add insult to injury it seems Steve Jobs sent this email reply to a customer who asked about the iPhone 4 reception issue.
If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.

And now there are reports from Apple’s support forums that there is a 4.0.1 software update coming as early as early next week that supposedly fixes the iPhone 4 reception issues.
I am really skeptical on a software update fixing what seems to be a hardware issue.
Anyhow, if you were hoping to jailbreak or unlock your iPhone 4, this is probably a best time to save your SHSH blobs for iPhone 4. The new 4.0.1 update might patch the vulnerability that iPhone hackers have used to unlock.
We will post a tutorial on how to save your SHSH blobs for iPhone 4 shortly. Stay tuned.
