I use Google Reader everyday and multiple times a day to catch up on news via RSS feeds. I like the email like interface and it is a great way to go through a lot of news items.
But, ever since I tried apps like Flipboard and Pulse on iPad, I have taken to reading news through thumbnails of news story pictures. If you are familiar with it, it is more of a visual way of absorbing content.
With the touch screen on an iPhone and iPad, a different layout for content consumption works quite well.
Flud iPhone app is one such app that lets you customize your news experience with the content you want and in a modern rich interface.
With Flud installed, you can search and add content from a curated list. You can also search for blogs and websites and add them with just one touch. The best feature of it all is the ability to hook your Google Reader account to Flud.
Once connected to Google, you can choose upto 25 feeds to read via Flud. So, if you are looking for a Google Reader replacement, check out Reeder iPhone app.
Flud is more of a much more modern way of getting the content. The app also works offline so it is great for reading while on airplanes or traveling with no cell signal.
The app also makes it easy to share content to social networks as well as email articles. Navigating to next article is also easy with just a side swipe gesture.
You can share articles you like with other Flud users or mark it as a favorite to come back and read it again. The app has a built-in browser so you don’t leave the app if you click on links or watch videos.
If you haven’t tried Flud yet, it is a free download. Check it out now.
However, if you have already tried Pulse mini for iPhone you may find that this sort of visually scrolling interface might be a little too much for the small iPhone screen.
Don’t get me wrong, I love apps like Pulse, Flipboard and Flud on iPad and love reading through them. But, for catching up on news on my iPhone 4, I think Reeder app is still the best.
Flud is also available for iPad for free.
