We posted yesterday a collection of question and answers on 3GS jailbreak from musclenerd – a Dev Team member.
Dev Team has come out and posted a couple of posts on future proofing your iPhone 3GS jailbreak. What this means is, if you do the steps mentioned in this article, you can be rest assured your iPhone 3GS device can be jailbroken in the future no matter what kind of restrictions Apple build into their future firmwares.

There is a lot to read and understood in these posts, so get a cup of coffee and expect to feel your head spin
I read Saurik’s ‘Caching Apple’s Signature Server’ post twice and still not sure if I got my facts straight. Until I do, I will refrain to post here with an easy to-do list for you.
With that disclaimer, here is my understanding so far and please correct me if you understood it better.
- If you have a 3GS iPhone, you don’t want to update to 3.1 yet.
- Saurik has created a Caching Signature Server – to capture iPhone 3GS’s unique key
- Even if you don’t want to jailbreak now, doing this will enable your device to be jailbroken in the future
- Saurik’s caching server can’t restore 3.0.1 at this point, so you have to downgrade to 3.0 to do this
I am sure you will have a lot of questions as I do. Don’t worry, there is a helpful forum – Downgrading 3GS that aims to answer most people’s questions. Please do check it out.
