Goodreads is one of the largest social networks for everyone who reads books. It is a free website where you can register and keep track of all the books you read, discover new books through your friends, lists, browsing through various genres, etc..
Aside from being a place to keep track of your reading list, you can also add to a wish list of books you want to read in the future.
It also has the social networking element where you can find your friends by hooking into your email contacts or Facebook and share your reads and find books through their status updates and book reviews.
You can read our complete Goodreads review here on our sister tech blog.
Goodreads iPhone app gives you access to this enormously useful website right from your iPhone.
You can see the whole list of books you have added to various lists. You can tap into individual books and set status, assign it to bookshelf, add a review, view comments, compare online prices, etc.
You can also search for books by title, author or both. The explore section offers a lot of ways to find interesting books. You can browse by category. Or you can also view local events by letting the app find your location and find events around you. You can also read recent reviews added by the Goodreads community members.
Goodreads app also comes with a built-in ebook reader you can use to read ebooks right inside the app.
I have become a big fan of Audible on iPhone and have been listening to at least 1 or 2 books a month.
Goodreads is now helping me keep track of the books I read plus find good books I should read next. The app won’t win any awards for design and interface but the price is right for this app – Free!
An iPad app that fits the larger screen will make exploring for new books fun and could add some more interactive elements!
