Google Translate has been available for the iPhone and iOS platform as a web app since mid 2008.
Google has finally released an official iPhone app for Google Translate in the App Store.
The app is simple in it’s function but can be quite useful when you need to translate to another language.
The app has some significant improvements over the web app with ability to speak your words as well as listen to the translation.
The app can translate a word or phrase between 50 languages. And it accepts about 15 languages for voice input. To speak to the app, just tap the mic icon and by the text box as you would in the Google Mobile iPhone app.
Or you could just type in the text and get it translated. One cool thing about the translation results is that you could tap the little speaker icon and have the app read it out to you. This is very helpful if you are trying to learn the pronunciation or just having a hard time conveying the translation.
You can also star your most used words for quick reference later on.
If you wanted to use the web app you will find a link to it in the Apps tab in the Google Mobile iPhone app. This is a cool app to have for those instances you would need fast translations.
And it’s free in the App Store.
