Apple’s free iPhone 4 case has arrived. As I mentioned earlier, I had ordered the Griffin Reveal Etch Ultra-thin Protective Case for iPhone 4, Black from Apple using the free case offer.
It just arrived today and I wanted to post my thoughts on it in a quick review.
I have always liked Griffin’s packaging and this was no different. I could get the case off without cutting off my pinky finger. The case basically has rubber sides with a full coverage polycarbonate back. The rubber sides were the primary reason I selected this case. I have butter fingers and drop my phone a lot. Exactly, why I bought the iPhone 4 warranty.

But, I digress. The case fit my iPhone 4 perfectly well without adding too much bulk. The rubber sides reflect the square edges of the iPhone 4 so it still feels like you are holding an iPhone 4 but without worry about it slipping from your fingers or worry about signal attenuation. The sides have kind of a matte finish that gives it a solid grip.
I like the cool pattern in the back side of this case. The back panel is set inside a little and this is good design as the back panel won’t get scratched up when you place your phone on flat surfaces. The front side isn’t inside as deep as the back side but just enough so the front glass doesn’t scratch either when you place it face down on flat surfaces.
The build quality of this case seems good for the price. It is no SFBags Smart Case in terms of shock protection and safety but it offers good protection without adding bulk at an affordable price. I was able to put this case on without a problem even with InvisibleSHIELD for iPhone 4 on both front and back.
Griffin sells this case for $29.99. I found it for < $20 in Amazon.
