iPhone Tip: Continue Using an App That Was Too Big to Update

Do you know how when you go to upgrade some apps from the App Store over 3G and you get a message that the app is over 20MB in size. You’d need a WiFi connection before you could update that app.

The downside to this is that you cannot use that app until you find a WiFi connection and update it. This could be really annoying if this happens to an app that you use on the road a lot.

So how can you keep using an app that just won’t update because the update size is over 20MB?

Easy.

  1. Go to Settings –> General
  2. Scroll to International –> Language
  3. Pick a language you know or atleast know you will be able to navigate back to the same menu
  4. Once the language changes, go back to Language menu and set it back to your original language.

Now you should be able to use that application again without updating. This works on the iPad and iPad 2 as well.

I just heard about this tip on Today in iOS podcast #180. So, a hat tip to them!
