How to Watch Netflix Instant Movies on iPhone? [Jailbreak]

As you might have known Netflix released the Apple iPad Netflix app app so you can watch Netflix movies available for instant streaming on your iPad. Netflix also promised that they will be releasing the iPhone app this summer. It’s not here to this date.

However, if you need to watch Netflix on iPhone right now you are in luck. However, you need a jailbroken iPhone to use this.

It takes a little familiarity with using SSH terminal or a tool like iPhone Browser or i-FunBox, etc.

How to Watch Netflix on iPhone?

I am just jotting down the steps I did on my iPhone 4 and it should be similar if not the same for your iDevice.

1. Download Netflix iPad app on your desktop iTunes.
2. Find the app on your desktop. (In Windows XP, it was under C:\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Mobile Applications.)
3. Copy the app to any folder and rename the extension from .ipa to zip.
4. Extract the contents of Netflix 1.0.4.zip file
5. Browse to Payload directory and you will see the Netflix.app folder. You will copy this into your iPhone.
6. Now, use a ssh utility like WinSCP (or Cyberduck) to login to your iPhone (or your favorite tool on your platform). (Default root user password is ‘alpine’ but you should change this to something secure)
7. Or you can use a tool like iPhone Browser or i-FunBox or DiskAid to browse your iPhone files.
8. Browse to /Applications folder and copy Netflix.app to your iPhone. (You can also find this folder at /private/var/stash/Applications)
9. Right click on Netflix.app and change the permissions to 755 recursively. In ssh terminal mode, you’d execute chmod –R 755 Netflix.app.
10. I repeat. Make sure you have set the permissions to 755 or this won’t work. If you use a iPhone filer browser, you may have to read up on how to do this on the app you are using.
11. Respring or Restart your iPhone
12. Now you do one of 2 things
    1. Buy an app like Atomic Browser or Perfect Browser from App Store which lets you change your browser user agent to iPad.
    2. Or get the free User Agent Faker app from Cydia. Go to Settings and set the User agent to Apple iPad. Then go into Applications and toggle Safari ON.
       
13. With the browser of your choice in the last step, go to Netflix and click on a movie to watch.
14. The browser will close and the video will start playing!
