Hulu is one of the most popular online movie & tv shows streaming service that has seen its popularity skyrocket in the last year. Hulu.com has been a great place to watch recent TV shows online for free.
The service was ad-supported so you had to sit through a commercial before watching a TV show or one of the free movies. One downside with Hulu so far was that you could only go back a few trailing episodes for any TV show. You could not see all the episodes in a season.
Hulu has introduced a new subscription based service called Hulu Plus.
"Hulu Plus is a new, revolutionary ad-supported subscription product that is incremental and complementary to the existing Hulu service," the company said in its blog today.
It will cost you $9.99 per month.
The great news in this is that Hulu has released a free Hulu Plus iOS 4 app that works on iPhone, iPod Touch and the Apple iPad. With a $9.99 monthly subscription you can watch all the TV shows and movies available via the Hulu.com website right on your iDevice.
One major difference between the free web version and the subscription service is that Hulu Plus will make every episode of the current season available in 720p HD streams. The free web Hulu service has only a few trailing episodes of the TV shows.
But, the subscription service is still ad-supported. For $10 a month you are not getting ad-free version instead you get access via multiple media enabled devices including iDevices. Also supported are Internet-enabled TVs, Blu-ray players, etc.
The Hulu Plus iPhone app is very nicely done and I had no trouble checking out the free gallery made available in the free app for us to check out.
Give it a look and let us know what you think. Would Hulu Plus finally free us out of the shackles of traditional cable television?
