Radio iPhone apps solve a problem many have. You might have a favorite radio station where you live or lived in the past but you might have moved away or just travelling.
What if you still wanted to listen to that radio station? If the station had live streaming on the web, you could listen to it on your computer. But for the times when you are on the go, you can listen to those radio stations with radio iPhone apps.
iHeartRadio is one of our favorite radio streaming iPhone apps. It streams over 750 US radio stations right to your iPhone or iPod Touch.
The app has a simple and neat interface. You can browse through local stations in determines based on your location or you can search for a radio station by city or by genre.
It also has a section titled ‘Personalities’ where you can find stations such as ‘AT40 with Ryan Seaccrest’, ‘Radio Weezer’, ‘The Dave Ryan Show’ etc.
Are you a fan of talk shows? iHeartRadio has you covered there too. I see 4 premium stations including Dr. Laura, Hannity, Bob & Tom and Jim Rome.
If you find a station you like, you can save it to your favorites for easy access. You can also favorite a song you are hearing. In the favorites tab you can set a station to start by default when you launch the app.
If you are bored and just want to try your luck, you can use the ‘Shake it’ tab to find a random station. This is made interesting by letting you lock either a place or the genre and let it pick a random station.
All the stations are streamed in Apple’s high-quality AAC format so the audio quality is really good.
The app is iOS 4 compatible which means you can stream your favorite radio station while you are using other apps. It has also been updated with high res graphics for the iPhone 4 display.
Oh, did I mention iHeartRadio is FREE? Go ahead, give it a shot and let us know in the comments if you have found something better or comparable. I am sure there are quote a few out there.
