Apple yesterday released the iOS 4.1 update with an updated SDK to developers. With a lot of expectations that this might fix the iPhone 4 antenna issues, the iOS 4.1 seems to fail to fix it. Actually I am not surprised. A software fix for a hardware issue, meh!
If you want to see the iPhone 4 antenna issue on 4.1 as well, check out this video below.
iOS 4.1 does bring the newly promised AT&T signal bars. Here’s a graphic depicting it from Gizmodo
Apple did confess that the formula they were using was erroneous and that they will be updating. In fact, they have done so so much that the smallest of the bars if twice as high as it used to be. But, this is just a visual fix than actually fixing the ‘death grip’ issue.
Apple Press Conference
Amidst all this, Apple has called a special press conference on Friday 10AM PT. There are no announced details about the conference yet. But, if you are following the iPhone 4 issues getting mainstream attention, it is pretty obvious that Steve Jobs will try to address this.
I hope they won’t try to sweep this issue under the rug as it is very real. It might be cheaper to offer free Bumper cases to anyone with an antenna issue than issuing a mass recall as some have been calling for.
What do you think will happen tomorrow? A free bumper or an iPhone 4 recall?
Some predict iOS 4 for iPad and even iPhone 4 on Verizon to be announced tomorrow but I believe they are way off target.
