If you follow me on Twitter, you might have heard that my iPhone 3GS (was on firmware 3.1.2) went dead after I updated Cydia. Not sure if that’s what caused it but my iPhone was stuck in the Apple logo.
I was away this weekend so I couldn’t do a restore from backup which was in my home desktop. So, instead I chose to just update to 3.1.3 and restore to factory settings so at least I’ll have a working phone.
And then I thought I’d see how long I can go without jailbreaking my iPhone.
I gave in within 24 hours. I needed my Backgrounder & SBSettings!
Spirit Jailbreak for 3.1.3
Spirit does not perform carrier unlock. So, if you need unlock to use your iPhone, don’t upgrade to 3.1.3.
So, I gave Spirit jailbreak for iPhone OS 3.1.3 a try.
It really was a piece of cake. I really don’t see the point of providing a tutorial for something as easy as this one. Let me show you what I mean by listing what I did.
- Connected my iPhone
- Closed iTunes. Made sure it wasn’t running.
- Downloaded Spirit for Mac from http://spiritjb.com
- Unzipped and ran the executable
- Clicked on Jailbreak button in Spirit
- Waited until Spirit did its thing – you will see a progress bar moving along – and the iPhone restarts.
You will see a new brown colored app called Cydia. That’s it.
Your iPhone is now jailbroken!
For New iPhone Jailbreakers
Cydia is your new App Store for jailbreak apps. You can search, browse, install and delete jailbreak apps from Cydia.
You may have a few questions like
- How do I Install Apps from Cydia?
- Must have beginner jailbreak apps
I am going to follow up with a few posts on how to get started after jailbreaking for new jailbreakers.
So, stay tuned.
