How to Get iBEC & iBSS Files from iPhone 3GS?

Dev Team recommends keeping a copy of your iPhone 3GS iBEC & iBSS files from your iPhone to ensure you can unlock or jailbreak your iPhone 3GS in the future.

Tip: You might be able to just do this right in DFU mode like I was able to. If you would like to try just that skip to Part 2.

Before you get started, make a backup of your iPhone by clicking on iPhone icon in iTunes and selecting backup.

Steps to Get iBEC & iBSS Files

Part 1

  1. Open Windows run prompt (Windows key +R) and type %temp% and hit OK
  2. Keep this temp folder open and have it sorted by Date so you see the most recent stuff in the top. Make sure you can view hidden files and folders. (Tools -> Folder Options -> View in XP and Organize -> Folder and Search Options -> View in Vista)
  3. Create a folder in your Desktop and name it something like 3GS Jailbreak.
  4. Download the iPhone 3.0 firmware iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw from Apple and place it in the above folder
  5. Launch iTunes and make sure your iPhone is connected to your computer.
  6. Now hold down the Shift key and click the Restore button. Choose the iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw restore file.

You want the first of the three folders that will apear during the restore. So try to be quick)iphone3gs ibec ibss2 How to Get iBEC & iBSS Files from iPhone 3GS?

  2. Press and hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time.
  3. After 10 seconds release the Power button. Continue holding the Home button until iTunes pops up a message saying it detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
  4. The iPhone screen will remain black. Your iPhone is in DFU mode.

  1. Click Ok to the message that says your iPhone is in recovery mode.
  2. Now hold down the Shift key and click the Restore button. Choose the iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw restore file.

I hope someone figures out an easier way to get these files without having to do a restore. It’s such a pain to have to reinstall everything when I have it just right.

So true. As we mentioned, you could try just the DFU mode to just one round of restore. And when you sync from your backup you shouldn’t have to re-install apps you already installed. The only thing I hated was that I had to rearrange everything to my liking.

One round is probably okay. BUT, I am assuming I would have to rejailbreak and go through that process again? If so, then I will wait until 3.1 is out then do a restore when the jailbreak is ready for it.
