If you have been trying to place a pre-order for the new Apple iPhone 4, you are probably sitting at your computer pulling your hair out.
I know I was since 5 AM EST! I woke blurry eyed and grabbed my iPad to see the Pre-order button on Apple’s site. I went ahead and tried to order one but it crashed before I could checkout.
So, I woke up and brushed and started all over again on our iMac. In between I managed to place an order via AT&T’s website but it looks like it vanished into vacuum. My mistake I didn’t print the final page. My coffee was still brewing and I am not a morning person, mind you.
Until 12 noon, I tried to contact AT&T to see if my order went through and AT&T’s stellar customer service was as usual, useless. I was told to just try ordering again.

Then while browsing the Apple forums, saw someone mention that if you ever managed to add iPhone 4 to the cart (past the AT&T verification process) you should be able to checkout.
That’s when I remembered vaguely seeing a message that an iPhone is being added to the cart. So, we fired up the iPad Safari and went to the Apple Store cart and there it is!
A shiny new 32GB black iPhone 4 sitting in the cart!
It took us 2 full minutes to complete the order at that point. So, my 5AM wake up call was not in vain as I still a lot of you saying AT&T failing with your requests.
One comforting thing is that it’s not just us ordinary folks trying to order from Apple & AT&T’s website going through this pain. Even AT&T store and Apple store reps can’t get through to AT&T’s verification servers.
So, the chances of iPhone 4 orders running out for June 24 delivery are slim atleast until the floodgates open with error-free checkout from AT&T’s end.
This is really a sad sad affair for such a well orchestrated publicity hype with the iPhone 4 launch. One thought for comfort is that hopefully Apple & AT&T will get their act together for the iPhone 4 launch and the following activation woes on June 24.
If you were able to successfully order an iPhone 4 today, share your tips and tricks in the comments.
