iPhone Firmware 2.1 & iTunes 8 Windows Vista Fix Available [Updated]

iPhone firmware 2.2 has been released!

iPhone 2.1 Firmware

Apple has released the new iPhone firmware that is supposed to fix a lot of bugs, improve on dropped calls, app crashes, etc. Some of the new improvements with iPhone 2.1 firmware are:

• decrease in call set-up failures and call drops
• significantly improved battery life
• dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
• faster app installs
• faster loading and searching of contacts
• improved accuracy of 3g signal display
• option to wipe data after 10 failed passcode attempts
• Genius playlist creation

You have to have the iTunes 8 to download and install iPhone 2.1 firmware.

Update After iPhone Firmware 2.1 Upgrade

I updated my jailbroken iPhone to 2.1. Yes, I am that brave. Here are some things I noticed:

• The backup before the upgrade took almost 4 hours!!
• After the upgrade the pineapple was replaced by Apple logo
• Cydia and all my jailbreak apps are gone
• When you turn on Wi-Fi, the Edge/3G network symbol is replaced by the Wi-Fi. You don’t have to turn off Edge network manually when you turn on Wi-Fi.
• Apps from AppStore install way faster

iTunes 8 Windows Vista Problems

Apple has also pushed out an updated iTunes 8 that fixes the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) experienced by many iPhone users while connecting to Windows Vista iTunes 8. You have to uninstall iTunes 8 & Apple Mobile Device Support in Vista and download the new iTunes 8 and re-install it.
