According to Apple, iPhone 3G & 3GS are supposed to operated where the temperature is between 32F to 95F (0C to 35C).
Recently, a friend of mine said his iPhone was disabled with a message “iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it” after leaving his phone in his car for a couple of hours.
Even in Michigan, summer temperatures inside a car can go well beyond Apple’s suggested operating temperature. When this happens, you may experience
- The device stops charging
- Display dims
- Week cellular signal
- Temperature warning screen like below

If you see this message, don’t panic. Just move your device to a cooler place, stop using it and resume using only when it has cooled down completely.
Some of the things that make this happen are
- Like my friend did, leaving it in a car on a hot day
- Leaving it in direct sunlight for an extended amount of time
- Using certain applications in hot conditions or direct sunlight for long periods of time, such as GPS tracking in a car on a sunny day or listening to music while in direct sunlight
So, I am sure you baby your iPhone so much but even with good care we may not think of these situations. So keep this in mind and enjoy your iPhone.
