Reuters is reporting that Bharti Airtel and their rival Aircel will launch Apple’s iPhone 4 in India in the coming months.
There is no specific dates announced for the Indian iPhone 4 launch.
Vodafone and Airtel are currently selling iPhone 3GS there.
Hailing from India, Shriya and I are extremely happy for our fellow Apple fans there waiting for the iPhone 4 to launch. In my recent visit, I was thrilled to see so many networks rolling out the 3G network. This should definitely boost the smartphone sales especially the iPhone 4 sales.
However, it is pretty common for a lot of people to import unlocked iPhone 4s from abroad before the official launch. If you are waiting for it to be available through official channels, there is going to be good news in the coming months.
Apple can’t ignore the world’s second largest mobile phone market estimated at 800 million mobile subscribers when the high speed 3G network isn’t an issue anymore.
Having said that, India had to wait almost a year for the iPad release there. And iPhone 4 seems to follow the same timeline.
