Jailbreak Your iPhone 4 and iDevices From Mobile Safari [jailbreak]

Users of earlier iPhone OS might remember jailbreakme.com. The specialty of this type of jailbreak is that you just go to Mobile Safari and run the jailbreak right from the browser.

Comex who is part of the iPhone Dev Team has brought it back for all iDevices including the new iPhone 4 jailbreak.

You don’t need a PC or Mac or any computer to jailbreak. Your iDevice has to be running iOS 3.1.2 or newer.

Just visit http://jailbreakme.com on your iPhone or iPod Touch Mobile Safari and slide the button on screen to jailbreak your device.

Once the jailbreak finished, just reboot your device to see Cydia installed in your iDevice.

This has to be one of the easiest jailbreak ever.

Notes:

• Some say that the installer brings up a popup saying that Cydia is installed. But, it just sat there with the progress bar in full. I gave it a full 10 minutes and rebooted my iPhone 4 and to my surprise Cydia was installed!
• JailbreakMe works even on the iPhone 3GS new bootrom
• 3G and 3GS unlockers can just install ultrasn0w to perform a carrier unlock
• Dev team has said they are testing the carrier unlock for iPhone 4 and will be releasing an update soon
• Some users have reported issues with FaceTime & MMS after JailbreakMe on iPhone 4. But, a restore from a backup on iTunes seems to fix this issue for many. Dev Team is aware of this and working on a fix.

I believe we are gonna have a whole lot of new jailbreakers for 2 reasons. 1. EFF just announced jailbreaking iPhone is legal. 2. Jailbreaking an iPhone can’t get easier than this. And this is good for the jailbreak community!

Update 08/02/10:

Dev Team has fixed the issue with FaceTime and MMS after the JailbreakMe jailbreak. It turns out it was just a minor permissions issues.

if you have already jailbroken, just launch Cydia and it will download and apply the fix. Or if you like to get your hands dirty just SSH into your iPhone with MobileTerminal and

• chmod 755 /private/var/mobile/Library
• chmod 755 /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences
• Just reset your network settings.

If you had any issues with jailbreakme.com jailbreak, try this fix

Those of you having problems where the device sits at the purple screen forever may benefit from clearing your cookies and restarting safari:

1) Put your device into Airplane mode.
2) Go to -> Setting -> safari -> Cookies -> Accept.
3) Double Tap home button.
4) Press and hold an icon to wiggle the task switcher icons and then quit Safari using the X.
5) Clear all Cache and cookies.
6) Open safari and go to jailbreakme.com and try again.
