Tomorrow is Apple iPhone 4 pre-order day – June 15.
Unlike the usual iPhone launch which used to be restricted to just Apple Stores and AT&T stores, more and more places are now joining the official launch date.
Stores that will have the iPhone 4 on launch day include Best Buy & Walmart. This is great for folks who have no Apple Store around them or an AT&T store nearby.
Why Pre-order?
Pre-ordering your iPhone 4 has its advantages.
- Apple Stores usually have a separate line for pre-orders making it very easy to pick up your iPhone 4 without a long wait.
- You can have it delivered to your home or work place on launch day without waiting in humongous lines on launch day
Where to Pre-Order?
- Apple: You can pre-order the iPhone 4 at Apple’s website and you can expect it to be delivered or pick up at an Apple Store on June 24. You only pay on June 24.
- Best Buy: Will also start taking pre-orders starting June 15 and the iPhone 4 will be available for purchase on June 24. You pay $50 tomorrow and will get a gift card that goes towards the final purchase.
- AT&T: You can pre-order at AT&T’s website or any AT&T retail store on June 15. But, you have to realize you don’t get to pick it up until June 25th (a whole day after launch day). You pay in full tomorrow when you pre-order it.
- Walmart: iPhone 4 will be available for purchase on June 24 but they are not taking pre-orders. You pay when you walk in.
- RadioShack: You can pre-order at any RadioShack location. You pay $50 down tomorrow and the rest when you pick up on June 24.
Some folks might prefer the fun of standing in long lines and taking their chance in getting an iPhone 4 in their hands on launch day. But, that luck could vary wildly depending on the stock each store carries and the demand in that area.
My guess is that a lot of iPhone 3G owners and even 2G owners skipped on the iPhone 3GS upgrade last year. And they are probably waiting to pounce on the iPhone 4.
Add to this mix all the iPhone 3GS AT&T customers who have been made eligible for an early upgrade (yours truly included).
Even though I have a Best Buy and AT&T Store near me, I am just going to pre-order it from Apple’s website on June 15 and have it delivered to my work place.
Apple usually ships the iPhone through the shipment carriers ahead of time and they will be on hold with the carrier with an instruction like ‘To be delivered on June 24’. Apple says ‘as early as June 24’ so our luck could vary.
