Bye Bye AT&T Unlimited iPad Data Plan

We feared it may be coming down to this.

AT&T’s unlimited smartphone data plan is a thing of the past come June 7th. Starting June 7th, AT&T will introduce 2 new data plans to replace the current $30 unlimited iPad data plan.

AT&T says

To give more people the opportunity to experience these benefits, we’re breaking free from the traditional ‘one-size-fits-all’ pricing model and making the mobile Internet more affordable to a greater number of people.

Remember, existing iPad customers on the $30 unlimited plan can continue to stay on it but anyone new Apple iPad 3G customers signing up after June 7th will no longer be able to get an unlimited plan.

Here’s the low down on the new plans

  • DataPlus: 200MB data – $15/month
  • DataPro: 2GB data – $25/month
  • Tethering: additional $20/month (available with iPhone OS 4.0 release)

For iPad customers, the new $25/month plan will replace the existing $29.99 unlimited data plan. Existing iPad customers can keep the unlimited plan for $29.99 or switch to the new $25 per month/2 GB data plan.

Apple iPad customers will continue to prepay for the data plan without a contract.

I am glad that atleast AT&T had the courtesy to let the current customers keep their unlimited data if they choose to.

What do you think about this change? Would you switch to the lower data usage plans or would you stick to the current unlimited $30 plan?
