Apple released the 4.0.2 iOS 4 update for iDevices and 3.2.2 iOS update for Apple iPad yesterday. This security update fixed the PDF loading bug that the hackers exploited to bring the jailbreakme jailbreak to all iDevices.
Only problem was Apple’s security fix did not include iPhone 2G and iPod Touch 1G users!! These device owners have been left at the mercy of malicious hackers that could use this exploit on these devices.
Luckily for jailbreak users, @saurik who runs the jailbreak AppStore Cydia has brought out a jailbreak app called PDF Patch that fixes the PDF vulnerability hole in all devices and all firmware versions (even going back to version 2.x).
Since the only reason for iOS 4.0.2 update was to fix this hole, you can wait out at iOS 4 or iOS 4.0.1 and enjoy the current jailbreak as well as rest easy knowing you have fixed the PDF bug hole on your device.
I like the Dev Team’s tongue in cheek remark: “P.S. Dear Apple: you’re welcome!”
I am not sure if Apple would thank the jailbreak community but I am sure iPhone 2G and iPod Touch 1G users are!
