PushMail is one of the first iPhone Apps I reviewed here that added Push Notifications for Gmail (and other email services that supports email forwarding).
PushMail developer Simon Patarin has released version 2.0 with some very welcome features.
If you have used up your only ActiveSync slot for Exchange and wanted Push Notifications for your Gmail, you had to go with an app like PushMail.
One thing that has irked me about Push notifications is that I don’t really need to be notified during my work day as I have Gmail open all day. Plus I don’t need it during the time I am in bed. The ability to turn off Push notifications during preset silent times is something Apple should add in an upcoming firmware update.
But, Simon has given this ability to setup silent times for PushMail and this is a huge deal for me! I just love it. Also, he has added ability to customize your mail notification message if you don’t want someone else reading your iPhone screen.
Also, PushMail 2.0 has
- sound customization with 25 different sounds
- history – ability to view past notifications
- colored backgrounds to distinguish different accounts
- badge notification when history is enabled
- notification message customization
- View button to open message in PushMail, Mail app or Safari
- built-in help for configuration
I have reviewed and tried a few Gmail Push Notification apps like GPush, PushGmail. PushMail has definitely come out in the lead with these new features. I would like to see more Push notification apps incorporating sleep times as well until Apple includes this in a future firmware update.
Plus, it is just $2.99 at the App Store now.
