Google recently put over 100,000 Favorite Places QR bar code stickers on businesses across USA.
So, with any QR code scanner enabled mobile phone, you can just read the bar code sticker and look up information about businesses, look up websites, dial phone numbers, send SMS, read secret messages, etc.
Semacode has just released a free QR code scanner iPhone app called Semacode. it offers QR Code and Data Matrix barcode scanning with real-time scanning.
Semacode also maps where you can scan and where nearby codes are located.
Semacode has been in the barcode business since 2004 and have been building this iPhone app for over a year. It is refreshing to see that they feel that a scanner app should be free for everyone to use.
So, if you have an iPhone now you can jump to the next generation of shopping experience where you can use your iPhone to scan barcodes and look up information. Soon, every storefront is going to have a barcode sticker which you scan and do various things with that information.
I haven’t had a chance to compare Semacode to one of the most popular bar code scanning app Red Laser yet. Semacode needs iPhone firmware 3.1 or newer to install.
If you have tried one or the other or both, let us know in the comments.
Semacode has a leg up in that it offers PC integration where you can review your scans and history from your PC. You just use a simple email based login to access the scan info from your PC or iPhone.
