Spirit is an untethered userland jailbreak for all devices on firmware 3.1.3 (including the Apple iPad) that is soon to be released.
To be safe, in case something goes wrong with the 3.1.3 jailbreak, make sure you do the following safeguard.
Besides making a complete backup, it is also important to saving the device’s SHSH blobs. If you have a Windows OS, you can do this easily with AutoSHSH utility.

The following steps should apply to iPhone, iPod Touch or an iPad more or less. I will just refer to the device as iDevice which is becoming a common usage term for any mobile iPhone device.
You need to be connected to the Internet and have Java Runtime installed in your computer.
Here’s how you do it:
- Plug your iDevice to iTunes and do a complete backup.
- Download AutoSHSH utility. (look at top menu for download link)
- Go to Recovery mode
- Turn you device off
- Hold the home button while you plug it to the USB cable
- Continue holding the home button
- Until you see a ‘Connect to iTunes’ image
- Close iTunes if it opens
- Now run AutoSHSH
- Click on ‘Grab my SHSH blobs automatically’
- Select a location to save your backup file. Your SHSH blobs are also backed up to Saurik’s servers.
- Reboot iDevice
That’s it! You can rest easy knowing your SHSH blobs are saved in case something goes wrong!
