iOS web apps were the only way to deliver functionality to the iPhone when it came out. Before the App Store, web apps ruled the iPhone world.
Web apps have taken a back seat with hundreds of thousands of apps in the App Store. So, it was heart warming to see a developer come up with a simple yet elegant web app.
Swearch.me is a multi-site search web app by Steve Streza. Once you go to the site you land on a page with a single search box to search Google. Just swipe the screen to switch your search to Twitter, Flickr and Wikipedia.
The background changes for each site but the search box stays as you swipe from screen to screen and I like that design.
If you like this web app just tap + button and add it to your home screen and you can launch it just like an app anytime you need to search. If you are on a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch, you can use the Cydia add-on ‘Add to Home Page’ ’Home Page in Safari’ ($0.99) to make this your Mobile Safari home page.
Swearch is an excellent example for useful web apps for iOS devices. I have made it my home page with the jailbreak tweak I mentioned above.
Another awesome web app to mention is Google Voice web app. Do you know of any other awesome web apps you use on your iPhone? Leave a comment.
