WorldOnGo Brings Your Vonage World Plan to iPhone

Update: vOnGo has been renamed to WorldOnGo in App Store.

Vonage has an awesome World Plan that lets you call dozens of nations unlimited for a flat monthly fee. If you friends or relatives around the world, the Vonage World Plan is cheaper and convenient to have at home.

But, wouldn’t it be nice to have the same convenience on your iPhone?

Vonage doesn’t let you use your home World Plan account on your iPhone and share it with your home phone. They want you to get a separate account and pay extra for that convenience.

Aphelion Technologies offers a way around this with the vOnGo iPhone app.

Vonage has an automatic call forward feature that lets you forward all your calls to your Vonage number to any international number.

vOnGo iPhone app basically uses this feature to reset your call forwarding number in your Vonage account to the international number you want to call.

So, basically you just enter the international number you want to call from the app. The app resets your Vonage call forwarding to it and connects your iPhone to it using your cellular carrier network. Once you are done with the call, it resets call forwarding.

vOnGo makes it possible to call international numbers from your iPhone but it uses your cell phone minutes during the call. It does not use data network.

The app won’t win any design awards but it is very functional and works as advertised. It can save you a lot of dollars if you are still making calls with calling cards when you are away from home.

The settings page in the app gives you options to automatically reset call forward to default settings – disabling CF or forwarding to or SimluRing a different number. It also has built in account validation and can save up to 5 favorites.

The basic vOnGo Lite edition costs $0.99 and is ad- supported. vOnGo Pro is available as an extra for $1.99 and offers unlimited favorites, last 100 call history, etc and is also ad-supported. You can purchase the vOnGo Premier for extra $3.99 and remove the ads.

I am using the Lite version and looking to upgrade to Pro as the contacts integration feature is something I would love to use now that I like how this app works.

On another note, you could reset call forwarding on your Vonage account right from Mobile Safari and still call international numbers from iPhone. But, this app just makes that task really easy to do. And you are paying for that convenience and in my humble opinion well worth it.

Imagine trying to do that manually while driving. Now you could just open vOnGo and dial any international contact.

    Karthik,

Thanks for information on this app. Although it takes around 20-25 seconds to connect a call, it completely reduces the manual effort behind logging in/making changes/resetting it back.
