App Store has some really nice weather iPhone apps some free and some paid.
Weather Machine is a paid iPhone app for weather that will set you back $3.99. Let’s take a look at what if offers.
Weather Machine is kind of unique with their interface as they stay away from the traditional menu in the bottom bar approach.
Instead the interface is full of swipe gestures to navigate to various screens. It uses clear panels that float in a background of your choice or the default blue sky. You can navigate through time by just using the panel on the right or the one at the bottom to look at weather for the week.
To view through the week, get ready to see a sweet transition of panels by sliding your finger from bottom to top on the right side of the screen.
You also get weather details by tapping on the weather panel. It can also show weather for the next 48 hours in increments of day quarters.
To view hour by hour data, just rotate your iPhone and you can also see weather maps, Doppler radar animations, etc.
You could set the app to prompt you to identify your location if you travel a lot.
You could also save a list of favorite locations or search for a city using the pull-out slider in the left of the screen. Or tap the ‘i’ icon at the top left to get into the Settings screen.
Weather Machine is a very nicely done weather iPhone app that totally has a different look and feel to the other contenders. Although it takes a bit of getting used to finding the various screens, it almost felt like a game and I kept finding Easter eggs in terms of features. That could be annoying or fun depending on how you look at it and I’ll let you be the judge.
If you are looking for a refreshing take on looking at weather, Weather Machine might be for you.
With so many free and good weather iPhone apps, I am not totally sold that this app is worth $3.99 but I’d keep an eye on the price to see if it drops to a more palatable $0.99 or $1.99 to grab it.
